Weekly outline

  • General Introduction

All the introductory information will be contained in this area:

Please access these before the course material

  • Week 1 Introduction & Pre-Course Information

The information contained here gives a background to the course.

    • The following questions test your knowledge of experts in various areas. Some of these experts will be discussed during the course and there are links to further information in the resources section should you wish to find out more.

    • I have attached a rather sensationalist US Newspaper article on this subject. Let me know what you think?

    • I have attached a brief podcast as we have singularly failed to arrange a quick introductory chat. Please listen to this and if there are any questions please post them  on the discussion board.

I will be sending out a new doodle for next week - please can EVERYONE complete this asap.

  • Week 2 - Nature v Nurture

This course is front-loaded - that means that there is more work in the first few weeks of the course. The good news is that one of the assessments is included within the week-to-week framework of this course.

  • Week 3 - Deliberate Practice & Deliberate Play

So we are moving on from the Nature v Nurture argument but not completely leaving it behind. We are looking at Deliberate Practice and Deliberate Play this week and their role in developing talent.

  • Week 4 - Talent Development

So we have looked at the Nature/Nurture debate and some of the aspects arising from that. I hope that we can move away from talking about Talent Identification, which in my opinion does not work, to Talent Development - a subtle but important difference.

  • Week 5 - Development of Expertise

  • Week 6 - Psychological Characteristics for Developing Excellence

PCDE's are gaining momentum as a key determinant in the development of expertise.

  • Week 7 - Innovation & Creativity

  • Week 8

This is your opportunity to ask questions, clarify expectations and network

  • Week 9 - Seminars

We will be concentrating on seminars during this week. Attendance is encouraged to support and report back to the presenting group/s. Please note that attendance & engagement is included within the overall assessment for this element.

  • Week 10 - Seminars

We will be concentrating on seminars during this week. Attendance is encouraged to support and report back to the presenting group/s. Please note that attendance & engagement is included within the overall assessment for this element.

  • Week 11 - Seminars

We will be concentrating on seminars during this week. Attendance is encouraged to support and report back to the presenting group/s. Please note that attendance & engagement is included within the overall assessment for this element.

  • Week 12 - Summary & Discussion

This is your opportunity to bring everything form this course together and reflect on your learning.

This could also form the basis for discussion around the final element of assessment - the case study.

I will be arranging a session to answer questions and go through the ethics forms - please have an attempt at completion and send to me before this meeting

  • Weeks 13-14 - Assignment Consultation

I will be available for discussion around the final assessment.

Remember you will need to complete the ethics form prior to starting this.
