Uploading files into Moodle

Dear Students,

We have been seeing a problem with uploading files (images, PDFs, Word documents have all been affected) into Moodle. The problem only seems to affect a very few files and we are still trying to diagnose what causes these documents to fail to upload into Moodle properly.

However users seem to be able to predict if a file is going to fail to load properly into Moodle or not. This is illustrated in the video linked to below:

To summarise, when uploading files into Moodle:

  1. Use drag and drop rather than the file picker if you can.
  2. Once you have dragged the file into the drag and drop area it should be represented as an icon.
    • If this icon appears then you can carry on with the upload.
    • If the icon does not appear then cancel the upload as the file will not upload correctly and you risk breaking the activity completely.

The cause is still under investigation and an update will be posted once we have discovered the reason for the issue. However it should be emphasised that we are only seeing this issue with a small number of files that have been uploaded to Moodle.

If you have an assignment that is showing this behaviour then you should contact your course team as soon as possible to arrange an alternative submission.
