Dear Susie,

Just a quick question about the reflective patchwork assignment. The grading does not include comments, right?

Thanks and kind regards,

Valeria

Hi Valeria,

Turnitin should be showing both your comments and grades for your M&A reflective patchwork text. I'll look into this just now and let you know when this is available.

Thanks for highlighting.

With kind regards

Susie

Hi,

I've noticed many messages regarding the PPI module are posted in the common room. I thought the common room was for chat outside of 'official' work.

This board might not be checked by students as regularly as the problems forum.

Thanks

 Hi Allison,

Sorry I haven't been able to attend the live lectures so far, I've had appointments that have been on the same days (experiencing the side of the patient)! I have caught up with the recordings and found last nights very interesting, thanks.

Kind regards

Donna.

Embedded images change to assignment spec

Hi Susie,

If we cannot embed images into our assignments in the future how will we add such things as flow diagrams etc.?

All the best,

Jean

Embedded images change to assignment spec - cont'd

Hi Susie,

Following Jean's post about embedding images, I would appreciate it if you could clarify me the following.

As I understood it, the issue is that all words that are included in an image will be considered for the word count.

If this is the case, that would mean that if I, for example, prepare a chart, and this chart includes numbers from 1 to 100, each number will be considered a word and I would have used 100 words of the total words of the assignment.

So, in conclusion, I won't be able to include any charts in the future as I will run out of words all of a sudden...

Could you please let me know if this is how we should interpret the new instruction?

Thanks and kind regards,

Valeria

Back to Jean & Valeria re embedded images

Hi Jean and Valeria,

Just to clarify on the assignment spec note re embedded images - No jpeg images can be embedded in your assignment submissions.

You can include tables, figures, charts, diagrams, however any words associated with these will be included in the word count.

Hope this clarifies.

Thanks

Susie

public engagement lecture-Brain Prize

Hi,

I just thought it worth mentioning that literally straight after Dr Jane Haley's lecture on public engagement tonight, I turned on BBC news (UK), and the story featured on TV was Jane's University of Edinburgh colleagues winning the prestigious 'Brain Prize' which she mentioned in the lecture. And most importantly, the £300 plastic brain from her office was featured in the news story.....it is obviously being put to good use! Congratulations to them!

Just thought I would share.

Dear Susie,

The text in PDF generated from pebble+ contains our names at the bottom of each reflection.

Do we delete our names from the text that we copy and paste into the appendix in the word document.

When submitting IP IV do we include the appendix at the bottom of the Essay document for submission or do we submit the appendix as a separate document.

Thank you,

Irene

Dear Irene

All assignments are marked anonymously, so yes please remove your name from the text you wish to copy from your PDF journal entries, and paste this as an appendix at the bottom of your essay document.

IPIV

Hi Susie and Allison,

I am finding it difficult to separate theme 1 (Your knowledge of and attitude to patient and public involvement in research)

and theme 4 (If/how, your thinking about patient and public involvement has changed during the course and what influenced this) whilst writing, therefore seem to be repeating myself and wasting word-count.

As long as I address all themes within the assignment, can I group these two themes together in one section without losing marks (i.e. cover 3 themes overall as opposed to 4)?

Hope this makes sense.

Best wishes,

Gillian

Allison Worth Post 36 in reply to 35

23 March 2016, 9:35 PM

Hi Gillian

As long as you address the themes, you can organise the narrative any way you like - important not to repeat yourself! The themes are just a general guide - the grading criteria give more hints what the markers are looking for

Hope that helps

Allison
