A crowd sourced student map

To start the course off it would be interesting to see where all students on the course were based, so the first activity is to crowd source a student map.

Simply access the Google Map service that has been created, add a pin marker at your approximate location and add a short description introducing yourself. You may also add photos and videos to the post.

NOTE to CDDE Tutors - this map isn't currently editable - just included for illustration

Remember the issues of copyright and the public domain we covered in this week. If you are posting any images that do not belong to you and those images are not in the public domain, remember to include a note of your sources along with the appropriate copyright citation.

You don't have to put the marker at you home address if you are concerned about sharing such personal information (more on this in week four). You may add a pin at your school, university, or work address.

Note: Any inappropriate comments or images will be removed.

At the end of the week I will post a summary of student locations in the discussion forum and correlate those locations to a student time zone map. This may help if you want to arrange time to chat to instructors or your fellow students.

Other crowd sourced maps

Once you added your mark to the course map, complete the following:

1) See what other crowd sourced maps you can find.

2) What do you think might be some of the issues associated with the data published on these maps? Do you think the maps are accurate and current? If yes, what makes you think that?

Please share your findings on week one's discussion forum.
