Activity: Defying Definitions, Exploring Stereotypes
This week's question is simple; What defines you? Take a moment to watch the Defying Definitions video and begin to ask yourself the question. How do you think you are perceived by others? Does your personal definition challenge the stereotypes people might have of your definition? Following the format presented in the video, complete the activity by taking 3 photos of yourself.
Photo 1: I am
Photo 2: I am + definition
Photo 3: Does that mean I....
Upon completing the activity, feel free to upload your photos directly to this week's forum.
Defying Definitions is a public conversation and community engagement program exploring identity, stereotypes and diversity. It challenges participants to reflect on how they perceive others, how they are perceived by others and what they understand about themselves. The project utilizes the humanities (film, literature, photography, poetry, etc) to bring people together for dialogue, both online and in community settings, with the goals of breaking down stereotypes, reducing conflict, and modeling civil and meaningful discussion.
