Preparing students for both higher education and the workplace in the Information Society, requires educators to teach not just within their area of expertise, but also to support students’ information skills development and encourage independent learning.  This course provides both a theoretical basis and practical applications for embedding information skills within classroom lessons.

The course begins by examining what skills and behaviors are attributed to being considered ‘information literate’ and what students need to have developed to be ‘college ready’.  We will look more closely at resource discovery, information synthesis and knowledge creation and sharing, through the lens of your own discipline.  Reflecting on your personal learning throughout the course you will have an opportunity to develop a plan to embed information literacy skills within your own classroom, and  to built a embedded lesson plan.
