Hi Sophie,
With forum post tracking on, opening the discussion thread to read the post is not enough to mark the post as unread. For each post there is a link in the bottom right named Mark read. Click on this to mark individual posts as read.
Alternatively you can use the instructions in the first post in this thread to mark a whole discussion thread as read or the entire forum.
