Well, if I may be frank, it seems the whole MOT thing wasn't thought through before it was offered up to DGs. Back in February my management team thought it would be cool to offer DGs a digital MOT perhaps not expecting they'd all snap up the chance. What happened next is unclear to me because I was only included in conversations from Friday!! Apparently some people in my wider team 'audited' each Directorate's social media presences but did so without any consultation or deeper knowledge about the granular business of each Directorate and without any knowledge of the purpose of each account they found. So most audits are incomplete and/or inaccurate. There is also no real clear purpose to the MOTs and what they are meant to achieve. It seems some DGs wanted help personally while others wanted to look at their portfolio's performance (whatever 'performance' means here) on social media. Months ago I had engaged nearly all DGs on our internal Yammer network about their aspirations and anxieties around using social media as a DG and it was really open and useful discussion. Apparently my management team just discovered this conversation and, despite not including me in any of the MOT chat until now, thought since I have already had this kind of interaction with them I should be the one to head up the one to one MOT follow up meetings. So now I have 45 minutes with each one starting Tuesday but nothing has been prepared so that's where Monday has gone. I want to make the most of having this time with them so want to pull together a cracking offer of support and help for them. And I refuse to leave these meetings without a firm action or two in place. Far too many meetings about better digital engagement and no action on the back of it. Very frustrating. We need to get to work!! I have it on good authority Ministers are getting antsy at the lack of engagement across SG generally and some finger wagging is going on from FM side so hopefully this will light a fire under DGs and others.
