Doodle Poll

I don't mean to rush you but I have only received 2 responses to the doodle poll so far. First suggested date is Monday so you need a bit of preparation time too.

Please respond so I can confirm day & time - even if it is just to say you cannot attend

We are still waiting for a response to the doodle poll but as 4 people can make 10:00 on Tuesday 13th then we will go for that.

As I mentioned before I would like people to have 2 questions for this discussion - mine are below:

What do you understand by the coaching process and how do you implement it within your coaching?

Do you like models of the coaching process?

Q Are ODL sessions available as Podcasts or on Blackboard. I missed the library one on 7th as I was working. Booked in last Saturday and had visitors drop in unexpectedly. Was not allowed to disappear as they were "my friends".

Q Are you happy if I disappear ofline occasionally. I am sometimes sent to places for a week the internet has not reached. I know

know I am going to be unreacheable 24/10 - 1/11 and also 16/11-19/11 - though I will be in Scotland for the second set of dates

1. Cote et al argue that no models provide information regarding the variables that need to be assessed by a coach to build a plan of action. Should they?! Or should the coach require through their own skill and knowledge of the game/sport work these out on their own? Surely this is the hallmark of a top quality coach?

2. I understand that these models can be successful, but do they limit the opportunity for coaches to think outside the box and be more enterprising?

questions

1: Could we expand on the difference between Lyle's coaching process and Hanrahan's and Kidman's model.

Lyle's model 'acknowledges external constraints and recognises the coaching process as a set of interpersonal relationships that are set out to contextual factors and exist within a cultural dimension" (Cushion et al., 2006, p. 88).

Hanrahan and Kidman (2010, pp. 3–4) talk more about the coaches influence on the player and how the success of the coach depends on how they develop their own skills to meet the athlete's needs. They emphasis “that the coaches’ responsibility is to communicate a positive philosophy to athletes that will help them achieve their goals” (2010, p. 16).

2: in your podcast Chrisitne you mentioned that you questioned sport without competition, could we discuss this a bit further.  There are dance competitions however where I teach we do not do them,  dance is subjective and even though we have developed a criteria to meet each level there is never a clear winner.

Hi Christine - I have tried everything, including downloading collaborate to my iPad - but I am unable to connect. I wonder if it is a server issue within school. Chris

Hi all

I think there may be a moodle issue or perhaps just collaborate. I can't get back on either.

Do all of you have skype - if yes could you post or send your addresses and I could arrange a group call? That may be easier in the short term
