I heard Steve Peters in Liverpool last year after enjoying the Chimp Paradox read.
I was really intrigued about the idea of the 'split brain'- emotional vs logical thinking/decision making after speaking with a sport psychologist about an issue I was having making decisions when under pressure or in crucial periods of a match. I'd analyse possible scenario's that might occur during a game which would require a change in strategy, and create an action plan, only to (almost purposely) make a different decision when the situation actually arose. Sometimes it was successful, sometimes not and I put it down to gut feeling or unconscious competence; that I knew what needed to be done on the spot without thinking it through endlessly beforehand.
I won't confess to understanding it to the extent where I completely buy into it or not, but it has certainly offered a logical explanation to certain situations I have encountered with my young athletes, many of whom very irrational, emotional young people.
I might be in the UK in time for the end of March so i'll definitely be keeping tabs on the communication session!
